<\/a><\/p>\nFirst of all yesterday I tried it on a short hike. Just to get a feel of it and see how well the lens handles and performes.<\/p>\n
It is of course a manual focus lens. That means that once the camera is on, you can’s see any data from the lens in the screen. Also the X-T4 had to be set to shoot without lens, otherwise it doesn’t even take photos. I found the best thing for now was to set the shutter-speed to auto as that is calculated on the light going through the lens. ISO can be set, but if you prefer the auto-setting works there as well. Only the aperture is a fully manual action now as is focussing.<\/p>\n
For the aperture the lens has a clear set of settings on the lens and sets with half steps (on the lens you see 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6… but every step has a step between as well).<\/p>\n Focussing is pretty easy. In the camera I set manual focus assist to ‘Peak’. and to show the focussed area in a bright red line. That means that when you ook through the viewfinder, the area that is in focus is highlighted in red. Set to an aperture of f\/2.0 that area is shot, but closing the aperture to f\/5.6 its a lot easier to get your subject in focus. Especially with a wide angle lens it’s much easier to get everything in focus.<\/p>\n After the round in the afternoon at night came the test for which I had bought the lens: astrophotography. I looked outside to see a clear and starry sky and set. up the camera to the tripod. As the blogs and videos had told me, setting the camera to focus on infinity is the best way to get results and as the setting of this lens appears to be dead accurate, I didn’t fiddle with that in this test. I aimed the lens straight up, pushed ISO to 1000 and set the shutter to 25 seconds. Disengage the image stabilisation and a the timer to 2 seconds to any wobbling of me pressing the shutter was stopped as well. And then just wait to see the results.<\/p>\n I’m really happy with how the images look and I’m ready to test this out in the field soon! Then I’ll need to find something to put in the foreground and make the image a bit more interesting. But it’s at the very least an interesting direction to learn about.
