About me

I was born a long long time ago on a carnevalesque Rosenmontag. After moving around a bit in my early years we finally settled in Assen when I was 12 and I have lived there ever since. As my dad worked in IT, computers were all around us while growing up and it was also the direction where my interests grew. So I opted for the IT direction in my education, then did a year of specific IT trainging (building networks, actually building computers from the ground up, installing and maintainging operating systems) and that training included half a year of internship in an IT store where I learned to quickly build dozens of systems. After that it didn’t take long for me to start working for a secondment agency and via that I ended up working for an insurrance company where I’ve been working for over 23 years now.

In this time photography became quite a big thing, I go into that more deeply on the photography page.

And at the age of 16 I discovered cycling as a sport and have been roadcycling (on my own) ever since . A few ago I added a gravelbike, but my Bianchi Semper remains my pride and joy. Cycling to me is the perfect way of maintainging health, being outdoors and keeping my own schedule. It takes me places and gives my time clear my mind. It’s just perfect 😀

Next to that I love reading and although books are getting more and more digital and I work in IT, I really don’t like digital books. I prefer the good old fashioned thick paper books. The same goes for music. In my photography-adventures I’ve mostly been doing concert photography which tought me a lot of photography and also brought me to musical directions I would never have discovered otherwise. I’ve quit concert photography as a hobby for a few years now, but music still has a huge place in my life. I love listening to records and here the same holds true: I don’t do Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music or any form of digital streaming. I much prefer the disc. Preferebly vinyl, but a Compact Disc also still has its charm.

Also I have a bit of a book-collection.
