It’s been a while since I’ve done decent concert photography and so I hadn’t planned all to well our visit to Groningen today on the Record Store Day that happend to take place today. While we were walking past Plato we saw a huge line in front of the store and while taking a coffee a few moments later I checked out the planning of Plato today and saw that Anneke van Giersbergen was playing there in a little bit.
Luckily I at least had brought my Fujifilm X-T4 with me and a little zoom lens, so after the coffee I hurried over to Plato and secured a little spot in the back to see somewhat of the miniconcert of Anneke.
Once we were back home I checked my concert list to see what the last time was I saw Anneke and to my shock that was all the way back in 2014! Over the years I’ve seen Anneke in the Dutch metal-band The Gathering (first time in 2002), and when she left the band to pursue different musical paths I saw some of her concerts as Agua de Annique and lastly a few times under her own name. But that it’s been such a long time I would not have guessed.
The concert, shorts as it was, was really nice. Anneke solo with guitar and with some help of the audience in the store for a nice full sound, playing a little bit of that first ever album of The Gathering with Anneke, also a Kate Bush cover and some other work. Might be a good idea to check out a concert of Anneke again sometime soon, before you know it, 10 more years have past…
