There is a lot of nature in the Netherlands still to be discovered and so last weekend we went to ‘T Roegwold in Groningen. It’s actually a pretty large area that has been created or extended in 2014 and we visited the Dannemeer which has a ‘ Vlonderpad’ (a boardwalk) over the lake. it’s about 40 minutes away by car, so really no trouble at all.
Halfway the path there’s a tiny little island with a bench to rest and enjoy the view and after that you can continue your way. Luckily it’s a one-direction path only, as it’s not very wide 😉
Once we finished the boardwalk-route, we continued our way along the path that lay across the lake. The views to the lake were nice, but directly next to the path bees and drone-flies were busy amongst the flowers. I was really happy with the shore focus distance of my 16mm wide angle lens and that the insects weren’t too bothered with such a giant lens at a very close distance.
But the place is also a resting area for the many birds that use the islands as a gathering location or just swim in the lake and as it’s a swamp area we even saw a few funning around ‘ in the waters’ hunting for food. Unfortunately my lens wouldn’t reach that far, but I was able to get a few geese flying by.
On our way back to the car we saw the Sundays bursting through the clouds and over the boardwalk.
It’s a lovely area that we will definitely return to, I also think it will look fantastic with a sunset. And probably we’ll bing some bikes along to be able to see a bit more of the area.
